We offer jewellery across sterling silver, gold vermeil, solid gold, diamonds and gemstones. The materials and finish for each piece are stated on its product page. For more detail, visit Our Materials.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver coated with a substantial layer of gold. At Forged & Found, our vermeil jewellery has a 2.5-micron layer of gold over a sterling silver base. It is not solid gold, and the plated surface may gradually wear depending on how the piece is worn and cared for.
Gold plating can be applied to a variety of base metals. At Forged & Found, however, both our gold-plated and gold-vermeil jewellery use sterling silver as the base metal. The main difference is the thickness of the gold layer. Gold-plated jewellery has a thinner coating, while our gold vermeil has a substantially thicker 2.5-micron gold layer. The gold fineness and plating type will be stated on each product page.
Items described as precious metal are hallmarked where UK law requires it. Small items can be exempt below the legal weight thresholds. Visit our Hallmarking pagefor an explanation and the official Dealer's Notice.
Each material has different characteristics, appearance and care needs. Start with the product details and Our Materials. If you still have a question, contact us and we will help you compare the options we offer.
The way a piece changes with use depends on its material and finish, as well as contact with skin, moisture, products, friction and storage. We describe the finish clearly and provide general care guidance, but there is no single wear timetable that applies to every person or piece.
Follow any product-specific instructions first, then visit Jewellery Care for general guidance. If your question is not answered there, contact us through the Contact page.
We provide the material information available for each product, but sensitivities vary and we cannot give medical advice. If you have a known sensitivity, review the product details carefully and contact us before ordering if you need clarification.
Use our Size Guide and the measurements shown on the product page. If you are between sizes or need a product-specific measurement, contact us before ordering.
